Current residency status in Mexico (after new migratory law 2011)

The residency status in Mexico are:

a)    Visitant (Tourist)
b)    temporary resident
c)    temporary resident student; and
d)    permanent resident.

The temporary resident, temporary resident student and permanent resident status grant the tenant the right to preserve family union. Which means that the tenant of this kind of visa can request entry to their parents, underage children, spouse, life partner. Regarding a permanent resident, entry is also allowed to underage siblings or those under tutoring.

The permanent residency status is usually granted after 4 years of temporary residency. Nevertheless, it is also possible to obtain this status due to a point  system  in which the academical background, labour experience  and skills will be considered.
