Temporary resident student (Mexico)

If you would like to study in Mexico, the Mexican Consulate in your country of origin will grant this visa.

For this purpose, it is necessary that the institution in which you will study, belongs to the Mexican educational system and that the study program that you aim to attend will be longer than 180 days.

The student will have to show an invitation or acceptation letter from the institution, which will mention: level, grade or areas to be absolved.

Also show enough money to cover the matriculation, housing and living expenses during the stay in Mexico (you are not supposed to work while you study).

Solvency can be proven by the student, his/her parents or tutor (as long as the student is no older than 25).

Students, who were granted a scholarship by the Mexican Government, are not forced to prove solvency. In this case, it is necessary to have an authorization of the Mexican Foreign Minister.

Please note that if you fulfill all the conditions to be a student in Mexico, you will get a visa stamped in your passport but the process wont end there!!

The visa will be then granted for 180. This means that after you get the visa, you have 180 days to come to Mexico but once you are in Mexico, you will have only 30 days to exchange this visa for a residency card at the Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM)
